The State Historical Society of Missouri Center for Missouri Studies
The State Historical Society of Missouri (SHSMO) Center for Missouri Studies was created in 2005 as a new division within the SHSMO. The center has been tasked with conducting research and honoring the history of Missouri through its many exhibits and collections.
The Center for Missouri studies also works to promote interest and understanding of all subjects related to the history of Missouri. The center's mission is to expand knowledge, experience, and appreciation of the state's past, culture, and natural beauty, its people, and their accomplishments.
Administrative offices for the Center for Missouri Studies are located on the fourth floor at Jefferson Memorial Hall in St. Louis, MO. Available resources include a library that houses many rare Missouri-related books and manuscripts, including SHSMO's historical newspaper collection.
The center also houses a collections storage area where items not on display are stored. A research room is available to view these materials by appointment only during weekdays, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. The Center for Missouri Studies also offers outreach programs for schools, students, and the general public.
